No reason to resign: RU VC

Rajshahi University (RU) Vice-chancellor Prof Altaf Hossain yesterday said there is no reason for his resignation as demanded by local 14-party combine and RU Progressive Teachers' Society (PTS).

At a news conference at his residence in the evening, the VC claimed that the university is functioning smoothly under the University Act 1973.

Earlier on October 20, the PTS published a 12-page white paper on the corruption of the university administration and demanded the resignation of Prof Altaf Hossain while the 14-party combine at a news conference on Tuesday said he has no right to hold the post anymore.

The VC however brushed aside all allegations of corruption and nepotism against him.

He said a section of teachers led by the PTS do not want a smooth functioning of the university and they have published the white paper only to hide their ineligibility and failure.

He also termed additional appointment against the advertised posts in the university as legal.

Prof Abdus Sobhan, PTS convener and syndicate member, told The Daily Star that the VC only tried to hide his corruption at the news briefing.
