'President was right to take charge of caretaker chief'
Staff Correspondent
Twelve senior lawyers of the Supreme Court yesterday said President Iajuddin Ahmed has rightly taken additional charge of the chief adviser to the caretaker government as per the constitution."We think, all sections of Article 58Ga in the constitution are clear regarding appointment of the chief adviser to the caretaker government and the honourable president has followed that properly," the lawyers said in a joint statement. They also said that some lawyers are propagating the president's taking over as the chief adviser to neutral caretaker government as anti-constitutional. They said being the conscious citizens of the country they think that such propaganda about provisions in the constitution is creating confusions among people and raising unnecessary questions about the president's additional duties as the chief adviser to the caretaker government in their mind. The lawyers urged all to restrain themselves from giving confusing explanation of the constitution and to extend all-out cooperation to the president as the chief adviser to the caretaker government for holding free and peaceful general elections. The signatories to the statement are Justice TH Khan, Justice Habibul Islam Bhuiyan, Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Uddin Ahmad, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Barrister Nazmul Huda, Barrister Mohammad Aminul Haque, Barrister Abdur Razzak, Shah Khashruzzaman, Alhaj Gias Uddin, AK Mujibur Rahman, Alhaj Joynul Abedin and Saidur Rahman.
