Police recovered the body of Ali Ahmed, 55, in the next morning and sent it to Comilla Medical Collage Hospital for autopsy.

His son-in-law Kauas Ahmed, 25, went into hiding soon after the incident.

Kauas have tortured his wife Marzina Khatun, 22, frequently to force her to bring money from her father since they got married a few months ago, police and local people said.

On Monday, he again tortured his wife as she refused to bring Tk two lakh from her father.

On hearing the incident, Ali Ahmed came to her house at night to save his daughter.

But Kauas then started beating Ali and at one point strangled him.
