BNP to form resistance committee in each constituency
Senior leaders to visit party central office regularly to cheer up workers

From now on, senior BNP leaders will visit the party's central office at Naya Paltan in the city regularly and spend some time there to cheer up party workers, sources said.

The party will also form a resistance committee in each constituency across the country to keep vigil against any attempts of its political opponents to create anarchy. Liaison committees will also be formed to coordinate the activities of the four-party alliance.

In the last five years when the party was in power, most senior leaders and workers did not visit the party office regularly. They were more interested in visiting the ministers' residences or the much-talked-about Hawa Bhaban, the sources said.

BNP Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan visited the party office yesterday morning while former state minister Sarwari Rahman, former whip Zahed Chowdhury, Emran Saleh Prince, Ahmed Musa and Sharier Rumi went there in the evening. A group of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal leaders were also present.

"We are ready to face all challenges on the streets," JCD General Secretary Shafiul Bari Babu told The Daily Star.

In a message, BNP Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan urged the party leaders, who were ministers and lawmakers, to visit their constituencies soon and start election-related activities, the sources said.

They also said the party high-ups in the last two days talked with district level leaders over telephone and asked them not to quit the streets at any cost.

Party's Senior Joint Secretary General Tarique Rahman also phoned several field level leaders and tried to cheer them up.

They also talked with a few aggrieved leaders.

Party leaders and workers took out processions and held rallies at divisional headquarters and different wards of the cities yesterday to protest anarchy and vandalism.

Similar programmes will be held in the cities and at district level today and at upazila level tomorrow.

Party secretary general in a statement asked the leaders, workers and supporters to make the programmes a success.
