Raul backs Cassano suspension

Real Madrid captain Raul has backed the club in their decision to fine and ban Antonio Cassano from training with the rest of the team for insulting coach Fabio Capello after last weekend's victory over Gimnastic."It's a matter for the club and you have to accept the rules of the internal code of behaviour," Raul told sports daily Marca on Tuesday. "I think we have to work hard for one another, be humble and work to the same objective and be aware that we are at a great club." Italy striker Cassano was given the punishment for what the club termed as "an act of indiscipline showing a lack of respect to the coach". Spanish media reported that Cassano had insulted Capello, who was his former coach at AS Roma, after he had left him on the bench during 3-1 win over Gimnastic, saying: "I deserve to play and be in the starting line-up. You are shameless. I stood up for you at Roma and this is how you pay me back." The 24-year-old, who has a reputation as a fiery character, had previous run-ins with Capello while at Roma. He has been given few chances by the Italian boss this season and had only played in four of the club's eight league games. Raul confirmed that he had told president Ramon Calderon that he was prepared to leave Real following their recent 1-0 defeat to Getafe, but said the club's confidence in him has persuaded him that it was not necessary. "Sometimes things aren't as rosy as they appear. You suffer when things aren't going well and you see things going on that you don't like... I simply wanted to talk to the president and tell him about my doubts. "As a result of that conversation my doubts were dispelled because I saw that he still had confidence in me and valued what I was doing." Real bounced back from the defeat against Getafe with a 2-0 win over arch-rivals Barcelona and are now just two points behind the champions in third place in the Primera Liga. They host Steaua Bucharest in the Champions League on Wednesday knowing that a win could put them through to the last 16 of the competition.
