Shafik Rehman won't go abroad without notice
Staff Correspondent
The lawyer of Shafik Rehman, editor of recently discontinued Jai Jai Din, and of his wife Taleya Rehman assured the daily's terminated employees his clients will not leave the country without prior notice to them.A meeting was held between Barrister Tanjib-ul-Alam and Advocate Fayez Ahmed representing the sacked newspersons and the Jai Jai Din management at the Supreme Court Bar Association chamber of prominent jurist Dr Kamal Hossain, says a press release from the terminated staff. Earlier, Rehman allegedly tried to flee the country last Saturday night without paying dues to the terminated staff. On information, the sacked employees thronged Zia International Airport, staged protest all night long and pressed the authorities of different airliners not to let Rehman board any plane. All airliners refused to accept him, though he had five different plane tickets with him. After the airport drama, newspersons held two meetings with his wife Taleya that ended without any conclusive decisions. Enraged and disappointed, they filed two cases and one general diary against Rehman. Meanwhile, sources said a number of newly appointed employees along with a few others who were not sacked were at work yesterday under the supervision of Rehman reportedly to resume the daily's publication. The daily suspended its publication on October 27 for an indefinite period only after 144 days into publication. The management cited 'problems with electricity generation' for the sudden discontinuation and terminated some 104 employees.
