Banglalink-Shaptahik 2000 Eid Fashion Competition held

The prize distribution ceremony of the Banglalink-Shaptahik 2000 Eid Fashion Competition was held on September 30, 2006 at the Spectra Convention Centre in Gulshan. The event was jazzed up with fashion shows at regular intervals by the leading fashion enterprises of the country, showcasing their 2006 Eid collection. The patriotic number Emon deshti kothao khujey pabey nako tumi by Bengal Bikash contestant Farhana Islam Kanti set the stage for the programme. Golam Murtaza, acting editor, Shaptahik 2000 and Shamim Shahed, senior executive, Banglavision, delivered a welcome speech. All together 65 enterprises took part in the competition. The apparels were divided into 10 different categories. For the fourth consecutive year Kay Kraft won the Banglalink-Shaptahik 2000 Eid Fashion Competition. While they participated in all the categories, they won the first prize for four of them and bagged a total of 14 prizes. The champion critics' award went to Banglar Mela. They participated in nine of the 10 categories and took the first prize in five different categories while getting 12 prizes overall. The Shahadat Choudhury Life Time Achievement Award was a new addition this year. The award was given to Imdad Hossain who had been the chief designer of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation(BSCIC) for 15 years. A cheque of Taka 25, 000 and a crest was given to this artist for his immense contribution in the world of fashion. The award was given away by the former advisor to the caretaker government Rokia Afzal Rahman, Mahfuz Anam-editor, The Daily Star and publisher of Shaptahik 2000 and Emdad Haque,director of Banglar Mela. The Nipun Nabeen award went to Gazi Sharmin, designer of Sharmin's Collection. Besides these, 40 other fashion houses also received prizes in the 10 different categories. These awards were given away by Nirmolendu Goon, Afzal Hossain, Shamim Azad, Shampa Reza, Kaniz Almas, Shomi Kaiser, Zobera Rahman Leenu and Banglalink senior manager K.M Shahed Zubair.
