The dead was identified Rashidur Rahman Khokan, son of Iqbal Morol of Kagmari village under Benapole Port Police Station.

According to Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), the Indian border guards of Jayantipur camp opened fire on some alleged smugglers while they were returning home through Horidaspur Pikepara field, leaving Khokan dead on the spot.

Immediately after the incident, the BSF men took away the body and kept it at Bongao Hospital.

BDR strongly protested the killing and asked to its Indian counterpart to return the body.
