Five injured as tank lorry explodes


A massive explosion wrecked a petroleum lorry yesterday that injured at least five people critically and damaged four buses at Mymensingh bus stand at Gaital area.

The lorry (Kishoreganj Dha-41-0003) was brought into a workshop at the bus stand area for its tank repair by gas welding. The tank erupted in a huge explosion immediately after workers started welding it, sources said.

Locals said, flying objects with tremendous force from the exploded lorry hit the five people and powerful shock waves shattered glass windows and damaged the vehicles all around the scene.

The injured are Abdul Quaium, 30, driver of the lorry, Rafiqul, 20, helper of the lorry, Ujjal, 18, workshop worker, Latif, 25, helper of a bus nearby and Abdur Rahim, 30, a local. All of them were admitted to Kishoreganj sadar Adhunik Hospital, sources said.
