'350 incidents of violence against women in Aug'


Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association (BNWLA) yesterday revealed the monthly report on the violence against women compiling the news items published in 10 national dailies.

The report shows that there were 350 incidents of violence against women in August.

Forty women committed suicide owing to violence and another 50 were killed.

Sixty-four incidents of rapes including six gang rapes took place while 14 were killed after rape and two rape victims committed suicide in disgrace.

Fifty-four women were tortured over demand of dowry. Of them, 44 were killed. Besides, four were burned to death.

Fifteen were physically abused, acid was thrown on 11 women, 31 women and children were trafficked and 13 met unnatural death.
