18 AL leaders acquitted of charges

A Dhaka court yesterday acquitted 18 Awami League leaders in a case filed under the Speedy Trial Act for laying siege to the local power office demanding uninterrupted power supply.Judge Shahina Khatun handed down the judgment acquitting the leaders, including Dhaka district AL Organising Secretary Haji Abu Siddique and Sports Secretary Haji M Jahangir. Other leaders are Yusuf Ali Chowdhury Selim, Haji Majibur Rahman, Habibur Rahman, Haji Ataur Rahman, Sirajul Islam, Dr M Selim, Jahanara Begum, Belal Hossain, Abul Member, Iqbal Hossain, Sobhan Driver, M Montu, Abdur Rahman, M Sabuj, Bamon and M Waliullah. Police filed the case under the Speedy Trial Act against them on May 14.
