7die in road accidents

At least seven people were killed and 17 injured in separate road accidents in Faridpur, Tangail and Munshiganj on Saturday night and yesterday.Our Staff Correspondent from Khulna reports: Three people were killed and 10 others injured in a road accident in Faridpur town yesterday. The dead were identified as Asadul, 25, Selim Reza, 30, and an unidentified minor boy. The injured are undergoing treatment at Faridpur General Hospital. The accident occurred when a passenger bus bound for Dhaka from Benapole hit a truck parked on the road. Police seized the bus while its driver managed to escape. Our Tangail correspondent adds: At least three people including a mother and a daughter were killed and four others injured seriously in a road accident at Sadar upazila of the district on Saturday night. Police and victim's family sources said Siddique Ahmed Chowdhury, 50, a regional director of Bangladesh Betar (Radio), was returning to Dhaka along with his family members in a microbus from his father-in-law's house at Shazadpur in Sirajganj district on Saturday evening. The accident occurred when a North Bengal-bound passenger bus from Dhaka collided head-on with the microbus on Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge Link Road at Gharinda at around 8:30pm. Latifa Chowdhury, 38, wife of Siddique Ahmed, and Siraj Miah, 32, microbus driver, died on the spot. Five other microbus passengers including Siddique Ahmed, his daughter Oishee, 10, and their domestic help Shirin, 14, were injured seriously. They were rushed to Tangail General Hospital where the doctors on duty declared Oishee dead. The other injured were undergoing treatment at the hospital. A case was filed with Tangail Sadar Police Station in this regard. A correspondent from Munshiganj says: A boy was killed and three passers-by were injured at Muktarpur bus stand when a bus hit an auto-rickshaw from behind at 7:30am yesterday. The boy aged about 7 was rushed to a Dhaka city hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Of the injured, Aslam, 33, and Azahar,13, were admitted to Orthopedics Hospital in Dhaka. Another injured was admitted to a local hospital. Police and witnesses said the accident took place when driver of a passenger bus lost control over the steering.
