Leave for Qatar today

An under prepared Bangladesh football team leave Dhaka early this morning to play their fourth round match of the 2007 Asian Cup qualifiers against Qatar.Bangladesh, who lost the home match to group leaders Qatar 4-1 on August 16 in Chittagong, will play the away match in Doha on Wednesday. Bangladesh have lost all their matches so far in the competition and it would be just formality for the troubled side and their coach Hasanuzzaman Babloo, who got the full squad at training for the first time yesterday. The booters had boycotted Saturday's training session in demand of a transfer date from the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), which has repeatedly failed to comfort the footballers about their future. The last transfer was held in December 2004. With all the federation high-ups in Sylhet for the final of the National Football Championship, it was national team manager and BFF member Mojammel Haque Mukta, whose words brought the team together at the final practice session at Brothers Union ground in Gopibagh. In a meeting in the afternoon, Mukta ensured the booters that the BFF's executive committee will take a 'positive decision' about the transfer in its tomorrow's meeting. "The National Sports Council has told us that they would hand over the Bangabandhu National Stadium for football by October 15. We have failed to start the transfer on schedule (September 1) but it won't be delayed more than four-five days," Mukta told reporters. "The BFF will sit again with the clubs immediately after the meeting," he added. While skipper Arif Khan Joy termed the trip as a 'suicidal mission' due to lack of preparation, Babloo said he was worried about the senior players' fitness level. "I have had only five to six players at trainings together as most of the players were on duty with the under-23 team in the SA Games and the National Championship. Most of the senior players are not fit enough to play full 90 minutes. So I will choose those who are less tired after a long season and better fit," Babloo told yesterday. "Qatar are a world standard team and it would be difficult as we would be in their territory. Two goals were suicidal and the penalty they got was dubious (in the Chittagong match). Our target would be to keep the scoreline as slim as possible. "We have lost 4-1 at home but the result should have been 2-1. I will try to field the best defensive and the fittest team possible with a mix of the experienced and the young," he said. Bangladesh suffered a 5-0 defeat to Uzbekistan in Tashkent and lost to Hong Kong by a solitary goal in their first two matches.
