Two suspects held for grenade attacks on UK envoy, Kibria

Investigators yesterday arrested two young men from Habiganj in connection with grenade attacks on the British high commissioner and slain former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria.The arrestees are Bipul and Mizan. An investigator said the arrestees admitted to their involvement with the incidents. "They admitted to having thrown the grenades themselves," the investigator claimed. The two young men, hailing from Sylhet had long been evading arrests. The investigators were bringing them to the capital for quizzing since filing of this report at 12:00am today. British High Commissioner Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury and 70 others were wounded while three were killed in a grenade attack at the shrine of Hajrat Shahjalal in Sylhet on May 21, 2004. Former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria and four Awami League activists were killed in another grenade attack on an AL rally at Boidder Bazar in Habiganj on January 27, last year.
