Osmani didn't compromise on democracy: Dr Moyeen

Science and Information and Communication Technology Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan yesterday said people would remember Commander-in-Chief of the Liberation Forces General MAG Osmani for his contributions to the nation.

Addressing a memorial meeting marking the 88th death anniversary of the commander-in-chief at the National Press Club in the city, the minister said Gen Osmani did not compromise on democracy.

He resigned from the parliament and cabinet in 1975 in protest against one-party rule 'Baksal', Moyeen Khan said.

Advocate Abed Raza presided over the meeting organised by the Sylhet Division Development Council. State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Prof Rezaul Karim, former Minister ASM Abdur Rab and President of Krishak Sramik Janata League Bangabir Qader Siddiqui also took part in the discussion.

Prof Rezaul Karim paid rich tributes to Gen Osmani and said his name could never be erased from the history.
