Platini drops TV job

Former France coach and captain Michel Platini announced Friday he was standing down as consultant with cable channel Canal Plus to concentrate on his UEFA presidency bid.

"I have decided, in agreement with Canal Plus, to suspend my consultancy contract with the channel and any other associated activities," said Platini in a statement.

"I therefore hope to concentrate exclusively on my campaign for the UEFA presidency which I hope to conduct with clarity...and transparency."

Platini, who had been working with Canal Plus since 1987, announced his candidature on March 15 as he bids to oust Swede Lennart Johansson, who has held the post since 1990.

The vote will be held on January 27 in Dusseldorf, Germany next year.x
