Totti to return next year

Francesco Totti said Friday he will make an international comeback in 2007.

The Italian playmaker indicated he would retire from the international scene after his country's World Cup victory in July.

However, in mid-August he told Italy boss Roberto Donadoni he would continue, but only after returning to top form.

"My return to the national team is fixed for next year," said Totti at his club Roma's training ground in Trigoria.

"For the moment I feel good. I am resting for a little bit longer and Donadoni respects my decision.

"I want to detach myself a little bit from the national team. I have given a lot for the jersey and now, I only want to wear it again when I am in top form, when the best Totti is back."

The Roma forward was far from his best in the World Cup, even though his country's hopes were pinned on his contribution to the team.

He had not fully recovered from a fractured fibula he suffered in February.

Donadoni did not select Totti for Italy's upcoming Euro 2008 double- header against Lithuania and France.
