Expat Bangladeshi files writ

Challenging the inaction of the Election Commission (EC) for including the expatriate Bangladeshi nationals in the voter list, an expatriate Bangladeshi in the United Kingdom filed a writ petition yesterday.The petition filed by Mohin Khan also challenged the non-inclusion of the expatriate Bangladeshis in the recently updated voter list as being repugnant to Article 122 of the Constitution where general right to vote is stated. Senior advocate Habibul Islam Bhuiyan expressed his desire to appear on behalf of the EC, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and the secretary of the EC. The Divisional Bench of the High Court (HC) comprising Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Zubair Rahman Chowdhury passed an order asking the counsel for the petitioner Dr Kamal Hossain to serve a copy of the petition to Bhuiyan with a view to allowing him an opportunity to submit his opinion over the application within one week after the court vacation. Dr Kamal Hossain moved the petition while advocate Ramzan Ali Sikder and barrister Moin Ghani assisted him.
