Charge-framing not held, order to produce JMB accused Aug 31

A Dhaka court could not frame charges in the first sedition case against eight JMB leaders and activists of Dhamrai, as the lone arrested accused Rafiqul Islam alias Sentu was not produced before it yesterday.Judge Mohammad Golam Hossain of the Additional District Judge and Bankruptcy Court fixed August 31 for the next hearing and directed the jail authorities to produce Sentu on that day. The accused are Sentu, M Wahab, Yaqub Ali, Anwar Hossain, Faruq Hossain alias Kosai Faruq, M Wahiduzzaman Pintu, Abdus Salam and Nurul Islam. Of them, Sentu is in jail while the others are absconding. On February 20, 2005 Dhamrai police arrested Sentu, Wahab, Yaqub, Anwar, Faruq and Salam with nine bomb-making manuals and contraband materials. Showing them arrested under Section 54 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the police produced them before a first class magistrate's court in Dhaka on February 22, 2005. The court granted two days' remand for them. All the arrestees were released on bail 13 days after their arrest. During investigation Dhamrai police found that the activities of the accused were seditious. With approval from the home ministry, Dhamrai police filed the sedition case against them on September 11 last year. Investigation Officer (IO) Iqbal Hossain submitted the charge sheet on December 27 against the accused. Sentu was re-arrested in November.
