Polytech teachers postpone agitation

Bangladesh Polytechnic Teachers' Association (BPTA) yesterday postponed all their agitation programmes following an assurance given by the education ministry that the 10-point demand of the teachers will be fulfilled soon.

The association took the decision on postponement at a meeting, with its President Md Shamsur Rahman in the chair, said a press release.

The assurance of meeting the demands came at a meeting between the association leaders and the Education Secretary Md Mamtazul Islam on Tuesday.

Teachers of the polytechnic institutes had been agitating to press their demands, including a 40 percent rise in their basic salary for running the second shift, promotion to the vacant posts and more opportunities for promotion.

The association leaders, however, decided that they would resume their action programmes again if the government delays meeting their demands.

They will also hold a meeting of the association representatives in Dhaka on August 10 to review the overall situation.
