'Resist war criminals in next general election'
12-point programme announced


Speakers yesterday demanded electoral reforms and resignation of chief election commissioner including two of his deputies to ensure fair polls in the next general election.

They also urged all to resist black money holders, war criminals and gangsters in the election to build a happy and prosperous country.

The call was made at a representative council of Sammilito Nagorik Andolon at the Institution of Engineers' auditorium in the city yesterday.

Nearly five thousand representatives from 100 organisations attended the council.

Binod Bihari Chowdhury, a leader of anti-British movement, attended the council as chief guest while National Professor Kabir Chowdhury presided over the closing session.

Binod urged all to start oust government movement immediately.

" We have reached the marginal point of morality. This situation needs an end," he added.

Justice K M Sobhan said corruption has reached everywhere under this government.

Sector Commander K M Shafiullah Bir Uttam said it is a shame that the war criminals are riding in cars with national flag.

AK Azad Chowdhury, former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University, urged all to fight back the war criminals.

AAMS Arefin Siddique, former president of Dhaka University Teachers' Association, called for forming a government of pro-liberation forces.

Qazi Farukh Ahmed, president of Oikyaboddh Nagorik Andolon, said time is running out to start vigorous movement.

Kabir Chowdhury said torture and corruption of this government have crossed all limits.

Air Vice-Marshal (Retd) AK Khondokar, Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury Dr Ruhul Haq, Principal Abdul Ahad Chowdhury, Ramendu Majumder, Selina Hossain, Nasiruddin Yusuf Bachchu, Shirin Akhter and Hazera Sultana also spoke on the occasion.

The organisers announced a 12-point countrywide programme starting from August 16.

Shahrier Kabir, eminent writer and journalist, read out the programmes that include forming district and upazila level committee of Nagorik Andolon within August 16, staging rally in six divisions and centrally in Dhaka to strengthen the oust government movement, and distribution of leaflets and posters to make people aware of the misdeeds of the present government.

In the working session, Abir Ahad, Barrister Amir-ul-Islam, Promod Mankin MP, Prof Shamsul Arefin Khan, Asaduzzaman Nur MP, Waliur Rahman, Qazi Mukul and Humayun Kabir spoke.
