Vieira off to Inter

France international Patrick Vieira completed his transfer from crisis-torn Juventus to Inter Milan on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old midfielder, who underwent a medical on Tuesday, has signed a four-year contract until June 30, 2010.

The cost of the transfer is reported to be around 10 million euros (12.8 million dollars), with Vieira expected to draw an annual salary of five million euros (6.4 million dollars).

Vieira is one of several key players to leave Juventus after the Turin club were found guilty of match fixing last month.

Juventus were stripped of the Serie A titles they won in 2004-05 and in 2005-06, and were demoted to the second division with a 17-point penalty for the start of next season.

With Juventus and AC Milan both guilty of match-fixing, Inter were crowned last season's Serie A champions.

Vieira's first taste of professional football was with French side Cannes, where he made his debut at the age of 17. Two years later he became their captain.

In the summer of 1995 he was signed by Inter's city rivals AC Milan, but made just two appearances before being offloaded to Arsenal.

His career took off during his time with Arsenal where he played between 1996 and 2005. He won three Premier League titles and four FA Cups with the Gunners.

After nine years in England, Vieira said he wanted a change of scenery and joined Juventus in 2005 for a fee of 20 million euros (25.6 million dollars).

Vieira was a member of the France squad which won the 1998 World Cup. He came on as a substitute in the final against Brazil.

A tenacious tackler and intelligent passer, Vieira quickly established himself as a regular first-choice international and helped France win the 2000 European championships in Holland and Belgium.

He also played in the 2006 World Cup final last month, when France lost to Italy 5-3 on penalties.
