Unknown assailants opened fire and killed two indigenous people, an 11 year-old child and his elderly grandfather, in the early hours yesterday at Robindra Karbari Para, a remote village in Matiranga upazila. Golaphi Bikash Tripura, 11, and his grandfather Tuparam Bikash Tripura, 70, died after a group of 18-20 indigenous armed criminals entered Topuram's house by cutting the fence at around 12:30am and shot the victims, family sources said. The indigenous community was found shell-shocked at the killings motive of which is still unclear. United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) blamed the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) for the killings. However, Nolen Bikash Tripura, father of the young victim, did not accuse PCJSS for the killings and said the attackers might have tried to kill him over land disputes, but they killed his father and his son instead. Police recovered and sent the bodies to Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Officer-in-Charge of Guimara Police Station Mezba Uddin said they have arrested two indigenous suspects -- Kolita Mohan Tripura, 30, and Rupindra Mohan Tripura, 25.
