Indo-Bangla relations

In response to Md. Jamal U Tanin's letter, I as an Indian citizen wish to put forward a few points. We Indians have nothing against Bangladesh or its people. It is wrong to say that India is a uncooperative neighbour, especially in the issue of trade imbalance. The only cause of such lingering issues is low confidence level between the two nations.

Things are not made easy by inherent and vicious opposition to anything Indian in Bangladesh. The failure of the investment proposal made by Tata is a pointer to this. Secondly, there is a feeling within Bangladesh that India expects Bangladesh to be ever grateful to it in return for the role played by it. This is not the case. What we expect is the end to the vehement opposition to anything Indian.

The relations between the two countries must be normalised on the basis of Indo-Sri Lankan model. Relations between India and Sri Lanka were extremely strained a decade ago. But both the countries now enjoy a close and mutually beneficial relationship.
