Price hike of Essentials
'Enact tougher law to control market'

Karmojibi Nari, an initiative for working women, staged a demonstration at Muktangan in the city yesterday protesting the skyrocketing prices of essentials.

Speaking at a rally, the organisation leaders demanded that a list of the syndicates responsible for the price hike be made public.

They also called on the government to enact tougher laws to control the market.

President of the organisation Shirin Akhter said some syndicates are controlling the market and increasing prices of essential commodities in a planned way.

It is the responsibility of the state to keep the market stable, she said, adding that the government should take steps to keep the prices of essentials within the reach of the common people.

She also demanded supply of essentials, including rice, pulses and oil, to the workers at a fair price.

She urged all to forge a united movement against the alarming price hike.

Karmojibi Nari Executive Director Rokeya Rafiq Baby, Mahmuda Imam, Arefa Akhter Anu and Al Azam Khan also spoke.
