E Ahamed calls on Hasina


Indian State Minister for External Affairs E Ahamed made a courtesy call on opposition leader Sheikh Hasina at her Sudha Sadan residence and discussed the forthcoming elections in Bangladesh.

Briefing reporters, AL International Affairs Secretary Syed Abul Hossain MP said Hasina and E Ahamed also discussed bilateral and Saarc issues during the meeting that lasted for 35 minutes from 7:00pm.

He said India wants to see a free and fair election in Bangladesh.

Awami League General Secretary Abdul Jalil, Kazi Zafrullah MP, Syed Abul Hossain MP, former ambassador Ziauddin and Indian High Commissioner Veena Sikri were present.

Later, Nepal's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister K.P. Sharma Oli made a courtesy call on Hasina and discussed bilateral and Saarc matters.

The Nepalese minister narrated to Hasina the people's uprising in the Himalayan kingdom and said both Nepal and Awami League stand for democracy and concept of secularism.

He said, "We have discussed how to strengthen our bilateral relations and the process of Saarc to eradicate poverty and illiteracy."

The Nepalese foreign minister stressed the need for more people-to-people contact and increasing cooperation in trade and tourism.
