HC rule on ACC
Why appointment of inspectors not illegal

The High Court (HC) issued a rule yesterday on the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) to explain why the appointment of 52 inspectors as the deputy assistant director should not be declared illegal.

A division bench of the HC issued the rule following a writ petition filed by four inspectors of the now defunct Bureau of Anti Corruption (Bac), including one Lutfor Rahman, challenging the legality of the appointment of 52 ACC employees as deputy assistant director.

The ACC appointed them on

July 19 after the government set an organisational structure unilaterally for the ACC in June.

The petitioners argued the ACC appointed the 52 employees as deputy assistant deputy director without following any appointment rule.

They also argued that there were more inspectors in the Bac but the 52 have been absorbed in the ACC by following pick-and-choose method.

Barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud moved for the petitioners and senior advocate TH Khan moved for the ACC.
