Skop strike passes off peacefully

The countrywide 24-hour strike called by Bangladesh Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad (Skop) was observed peacefully yesterday.

Skop called the 24-hour strike to press for various demands and for implementation of an agreement signed with the government on January 8, 2004.

Workers of different sugar mills in Rajshahi, Kushtia, Faridpur, Natore, Jaipurhat and Thakurgaon also observed the strike and blockaded the nearby roads and railway stations, Skop leaders said.

Workers of river vessels in different parts of the country including Ashuganj, Bhoirab, Chandpur and Khulna also observed the strike and refrained from transporting goods and passengers, added Skop leaders.
