Car trader robbed of Tk14.2 lakh

A car trader was robbed of Tk14.2 lakh by a gang of armed muggers at Dhanmondi in the city yesterday.

Police said Ariful Parvez Tanu, owner of Capital Motors on Road No. 9/A in Dhanmondi, drew the money from the Dhanmondi Branch of Standard Chartered Bank at around 2:30pm.

The muggers numbering four waylaid his car when Arif along with two other staff were returning to their office with the money to give salary to the staff of the car showroom.

The muggers riding two motorbikes encircled their car soon after the driver stopped it in front of their office.

"The muggers brandishing firearms forced Arif to hand over two bags containing the money and disappeared quickly with the booty," Sub-inspector Amirul Islam of Dhanmondi Police Station quoted the victim as saying.

Arif filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station last night in this connection.

Police could neither recover the money, nor they could arrest anyone until 11:30 last night.
