JS body suggests reorganising BSTI

The Jatiya Sangsad standing committee on the Ministry of Industries yesterday recommended extension of the Bangladesh Standard Testing Institution (BSTI) activities to the district level.

The committee has also suggested reorganising the BSTI for further strengthening its activities.

At present, the BSTI is working at divisional level and got approval for functioning in 15 districts, said an official handout.

The committee also reviewed a report on the BSTI activities to check tampering with weights, food adulteration and marketing low quality products.

Committee Chairman Major Gen, (retd) Mahmudul Hasan chaired the 32nd meeting held in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. Committee members Industries Minister Matiur Rahman Nizami, Gulam M Siraj and Shahidul Alam Talukdar attended the meeting.

The industries secretary and high officials of the ministry were also present.

The meeting discussed and accepted the "Bangladesh Accreditation Bill-2006" after scrutiny. The committee will place a report in parliament soon.

It also reviewed the latest condition of the Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM).
