Rickshaw owners, workers' ultimatum to govt


Owners and workers of rickshaw van will lay siege to the prime minister's office on July 31 if their seven-point demand is not met by July 29.

They announced the programme at a rally at Muktangan yesterday.

Insur Ali, Shah Alam Chowdhury, Rustom A Zaman, Haji Abdul Mannan, Ali Ahamed and AKM Giasuddin spoke at the rally with Rickshaw Owners and Workers' Association Convener Ali Akbar in the chair.

The demands include, distribution of licence from Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) according to the agreement, stopping seizure of rickshaws, handing over 45,000 rickshaws allocated in the constituencies of ministers and lawmakers to the real owners, allowing rickshaws at by-lanes of VIP road and arrest of the distributors of fake licence and plates.
