Shujan to upload existing voter list on web

Shujan (Shushashoner Janney Nagarik) has taken up a task for uploading the existing voter list to the web.

Anyone interested can browse the voter list sitting at home or office by visiting www.shujan.org, the official website of the NGO.

Volunteers of Shujan have started posting all the 83 CDs of the Election Commission (EC) containing the voter list prepared in 2000, to its site and the names of 7.5 crore voters will be available within 15 days.

Talking to The Daily Star, Shujan Secretary Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar said the website will be an important tool for the voters in the wake of the voter list controversy, to check if their names are there or not so that they can contact the election officials if there is any error.

"The candidates can also check the names and number of the voters from their respective constituencies," he noted.

Following the Supreme Court's judgment, the voter roll for the next general elections will be formulated on the basis of existing voter list.
