Withdraw blockade programme
Ruling BNP urges 14-party opposition

Ruling BNP Standing Committee Member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain yesterday urged the Awami League (AL) led 14-party opposition combine to withdraw the blockade programme scheduled for tomorrow, saying these types of programmes violate the fundamental rights of people as well as incur financial huge loss for the country.

"The opposition does not want free and fair election through dialogue. They are destroying public property in the name of agitation," said Dr Mosharraf, also health and family planning minister.

He was addressing a rally organised by BNP at Muktangon in the city protesting what they say opposition's anarchy and destructive programme.

Dhaka City Corporation Mayor and City BNP President Sadeque Hossain Khoka presided over the rally.

Law Minister Moudud Ahmad said the next general election would be held as per constitution.

"AL was isolated from the people for their destructive programmes on the street. They have no possibility of winning the next election," he added.

"We will arrange a gathering of 25 lakh people in the capital from across the country on the day we hand over power to the caretaker government. Prime Minister Khaleda Zia will go to Bangabhaban after addressing the rally to hand over the charge as per constitution," said Khoka.

BNP Joint Secretary General and Minister for Housing and Public Works Minister Mirza Abbas in his speech said BNP is ready to resist any sort of violent activities of Awami League.

BNP leaders Sarwari Rahman, Aman Ullah Aman, Barkat Ullah Bulu, Salauddin Ahmed MP, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Shirin Sultana and Shafiul Bari Babu also addressed the rally.
