Bank robbers loot Tk 2.5 lakh in Keraniganj

Armed robbers took away Tk 2.5 lakh from Ruhitpur Bazar branch of Sonali Bank early yesterday.Police said a gang of 12 arrived at the Bazar at about 2:30am and tied up three night guards of the market. Later, they fired blank shots, entered the bank by breaking the locks of the collapsible gate and tied up the bank guard. The gang then looted Tk 2.5 and prize bonds valued at Tk 2,500 from the locker and left the scene. Locals alleged that despite hearing the sounds of gunshots, police did not rush to the scene although the bank is situated only 200 to 300 yards from the local police outpost.
