Garment sector in turmoil

Now it's rather quiet on the garment front. After four days of anarchy, vandalism, accusations and counter -accusations, the garment industry is going to be operative again. It seemed from the TV interviews that the BNP leadership was more than eager to find an easy solution- "Awami' hand and conspiracy in the whole mad, nefarious and sad affair. In the meeting of the garment owners some of them were shouting, "What is the opposition doing?" A pertinent question is who holds the power? The government should have acted to pacify the agitators and broker a settlement.

Secondly, we would like to trace back to the past.

In December1971, when the Pakistani Army and its more ruthless local running dogs scented that defeat was imminent, they killed Bengali intellectuals to cripple Bangladesh.

Green capped, black T-shirted young outsiders committed the acts of arson in the garment factories They were well trained and had the requisite know-how of setting objects on fire effectively. The motive: India could be easily blamed and so could be the 'Awami League'. (Why not blame the other beneficiaries- Pakistan, China, Vietnam and Cambodia.)

There may be some benefits in the elections if anti-Indian sentiments are fanned. Hitler set the 'Reichstag' on fire to arrest his opposition rivals!
