Violence against women
Workshop held to empower victims
Nari Unnayan Shakti, a national women development organisation, held a workshop at its Banasree office in the city yesterday for prosecutors, victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence, complainants and witnesses, says a press release.

The workshop was aimed at empowering them to ensure that the culprits of violence against women are brought to justice.

Mock trial sessions were also held at the workshop to help the victims of sexual abuse prepare themselves to give testimony before the court properly.

Afroja Parvin, executive director of NUS, facilitated the workshop while Prof SM Razzak, executive director of Forum for Culture and Human Development, Advocate Afroja Farzana, Advocate Shabuddin Miah and Barrister HM Saifur Rahman conducted it.

Twenty-six lawyers and 20 victims, witnesses and complainants took part in the workshop.

The NUS will hold such trial sessions every Saturday under the project 'Empowering victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence for quality and prompt legal assistance'.
