BGMEA wants quick solution
Staff Correspondent
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) yesterday urged the government to immediately solve the problem arising out of workers' agitation at Dhaka Export Procession Zone (DEPZ) as the agitation is intensifying and spreading from one factory to another. In a statement, the BGMEA also requested Bangladesh Export Procession Zones Authority (Bepza) to tackle the problem immediately as ready-made garment sector is now facing a serious crisis. The BGMEA asked Bepza to find out ways to remove the differences between the workers and owners. If Bepza fails to do so, outsider extortionists would take advantage of this to destabilise the sector. It pointed out that the tension in the DEPZ is also spreading to other factories in Savar area. And Bepza has to find out a solution to the workers' discontent. Leaders of the BGMEA visited different factories at the DEPZ, Ashulia, Savar and Gazipur in the last few days, the statement mentioned.
