More areas in Moulvibazar flooded

Fresh areas in Juri and Kamalganj upazilas have been inundated in Moulvibazar district.

New areas in 50 villages under four unions in the upazila have been flooded following rise in water level in the Laghata river Friday morning.

Sagarnal and Fultala unions in Juri upazila have been inundated due to development of cracks on the flood control embankment on the Juri and Continala rivers.

The Monu, Dhalai, Juri and Continala rivers are still flowing above the danger level.

Road communication on the Juri-Fultala Road has become risky due to damage in Juri bridge. Rural people living around the Hakaluki, Kawadigi and Hail haors (water bodies) have been marooned.

Sources in the Water Develop-ment Board (WDB), Moulvibazar said, the Monu River Flood Control Embankment in Kulaura upazila has become vulnerable at 14 places as earth from the embankment is being washed away. The risky points are at Ali Nagar, Asroygram, Baligaon, Sondragram and Ronchap. The WDB fell concrete blocks to repair the embankment.
