34 killed by law enforcement agencies in May


A total of 34 people were killed by law enforcement agencies across the country in May.

This was revealed in a report of Odhikar, a human rights organisation.

The report was prepared on the basis of stories published in 12 national dailies in last month.

Of them 20 people were killed by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and the 14 by police.

Among the deceased, 27 people were killed in crossfire, three in jail custody and one in police custody.

The Odhikar report found that 39 people were killed, 1613 injured and 1808 arrested in political violence.

A total of 38 women were raped and of them 15 were killed after rape while one committed suicide.

Besides, 43 journalists were injured across the country and among them 19 were injured in an attack by the BNP cadres in Kushtia.

Cases were filed against 15 journalists during the period.
