Jalil protests killing of party man in crossfire

Awami League general secretary Abdul Jalil yesterday protested the killing of party activist Shaymol Kumar Sarker in crossfire after his arrest at Patkelghata in Satkhira.In a statement, Jalil said Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members arrested Shaymol on May 19 even though there was no case against him and he was killed on May 24 in crossfire. "Rab arrested Shaymol showing him accused in a 12-year-old case and then killed him. They are now warning his elderly father and local AL leader Polin Sarker not to file any case in connection with the killing," Jalil said. Jalil demanded fair investigation into the incident, punitive action against those responsible for it and safety of the minority people.
