Books worth several lakh taka burnt

Hundreds of books worth about several lakh taka were burnt to ashes in a fire that broke out at the book-shelf of the Co-operative Store in Sardaha Police Academy early yesterday.The fire broke out at 2:00am after the store was closed at 10:00pm, academy sources said. The cause of the fire could not be known immediately. Police however arrested Shamim, an employee of the store, for his 'alleged bid to steal the books'. Academy Principal Knondoker Hasan Mahmud told reporters that police were investigating the cause of fire.
