The Daily Star Rangs Toshiba World Cup Quiz Round-2
Sumi's smile in Khulna

The youthful brigade of readers swept away the top prizes of The Daily Star-Rangs Toshiba World Cup Quiz Round 2 in Khulna on Friday with 22-year-old Sumi Aktar winning the first prize -- a 21-inch Toshiba Bomba Flat TV.

A student who lives in Azimpur of the capital, Sumi broke the heart of chief guest and Bangladesh Cricket Board president Ali Asghar, MP, who in line with the sentiments of a near-packed audience in his own constituency wanted to pick a local winner at the Zia Hall.

Another 22-year-old student Shabab Huda of Dhanmondi, Dhaka grabbed the third prize of a Toshiba washing machine. However, in between chipped in a little older Morshed Ahammed of Hazaribag, Dhaka, who is 38 years old. He ran way with the second prize of a beautiful Toshiba refrigerator.

But unlike the first round draw in Rangpur where the locals fired blank, this time Khulna saw two of its many participants winning the laurels in the main draw much to the delight of the cheering crowd. There was also a raffle draw for the audience who instantly won two Canon digital cameras and five Toshin irons.

The colourful ceremony, chaired by the Editor and Publisher of The Daily Star Mahfuz Anam, was graced by the Managing Director of sponsors Rangs Industries Limited Rumee Hossain and a host of local elites -- Shaharuzzaman Martuza, president of Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Prof. Anowarul Kadir, executive director of Sundarban Academy, Advocate Mujibar Rahman, president of Khulna District Bar Association, Sheikh Ashrafuzzaman, secretary general of Greater Khulna Development Action Coordination Committee, Kazi Waheduzzaman, chief executive of Nabolak and renowned football referee Mansoor Azad.
