A human rights organisation yesterday filed a general diary (GD) with police to probe a former police official's claim that his wife gave birth to 14 children including septuplets.Advocate Alena Khan, executive director of the Bangladesh Society for Enforcement of Human Rights (BSEHR), filed the case with Badda Police Station yesterday demanding a probe to ascertain whether the couple were the biological parents of the children. BSEHR raised the question if Anwara Rahman, the wife of ex-deputy inspector general (DIG) Anisur Rahman, was capable of giving birth to 14 children. She had a bypass surgery, suffers from breathing problems and also had several tubal ligation, a birth control method, done on her so that she may not have any more children, Alena said after investigating into the matter. "Besides it is quite unusual for a Bangladeshi woman, at her age, to give birth to seven children at one go," she added. Meanwhile, the Officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station Abdul Malek told The Daily Star the police had been conducting an investigation into the matter before Alena demanded DNA tests and legal actions in the GD. "We will investigate the matter and go for the DNA tests if required," he added. Anisur however brushed aside the allegation of child trafficking earlier and said he and his wife Anwara, who happens to be his second wife, are ready to go through DNA tests to prove all of them are their children.
