Training on journalism for women begins
The training for the 2007 batch of Salma Sobhan Fellowship for Women in Journalism was inaugurated at a ceremony at the Brac Centre for Development Management (BCDM) in Savar on Wednesday, says a press release.Sixty trainee fellows from different districts of the country are taking part in the course. Leading intellectuals and media personalities will impart training to them. Tasmima Hossain, editor of the fortnightly Ananya, noted writer Imdadul Haque Milon, Shah Alamgir, chief news editor of Channel i, and Mariom Shelly, a Salma Sobhan Fellow of 2006, spoke at the inaugural ceremony presided over by Faruq A Choudhury, adviser to the Brac. Conceived by Brac and Pratichi Trust, the Salma Sobhan Fellowship for Women in Journalism is aimed at addressing the imbalance in the number of female journalists in the country by training aspiring women journalists at the district level. The programme runs yearly with funding from Brac and Pratichi Trust and technical expertise from a media partner. The Salma Sobhan fellowship training includes sensitisation on development issues conducted by Brac. Following the development aspect of the training period, the media partner will conduct training on journalism fundamentals, for both print and electronic media.
