2 killed, 37 hurt in Jessore road accidents


Two people were killed and 37 others injured in separate road accidents at Rajarhat and Rupdia on Jessore - Khulna Highway yesterday.

The dead were identified as Akram Hossain,50, and Nirmal,45 , resident of Keshebpur in Jessore.

The first accident took place at Rajarhat while a police van carrying accused from Keshabpur Police Station collided with a passenger bus leaving two people dead on the spot and injuring seven others, including officer in- charge Shamsul Haq, 45, his son Shahin,20, policemen Alamgir,35,Aziz,40,Mostaq and Abdul Majid, 35, and accused Mostafa, 35.

Meanwhile, at least 30 people, including students, were injured in another accident at Rupdia. The accident occurred when a Khulna-bound bus of Rajshahi University carrying students collided head on with another bus at Rupdia.

The injued Marsha,24,Beauty,23, and Munni, 24 of Rajshahi University and passengers Piltu,28,Hashem,40,Nasir,45, Professor Hasan Choudhury ,45, and Jahangir Babu,45, were rushed to Jessore General Hospital in critical condition.
