Govt asked to compensate affected RMG units, workers


A parliamentary body has asked the government to take necessary steps for paying compensation to the damaged readymade garment (RMG) factories and affected workers following the recent violence in the garment industry.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour and Employment Ministry at its 17th meeting held at Sangsad Bhaban yesterday asked the government to arrange such compensation through negotiations between owners and workers as per existing rules.

The committee thanked the State Minister for Labour and Employment for forming a wage board for ensuring minimum wages for the garment workers within the shortest possible time.

It also asked the government to take steps to punish those involved in the sabotage and avoid recurrence of such incidents in the future.

Committee members State Minister for Labour and Manpower Aman Ullah Aman, Shajahan Khan, Mufti Mohammad Wakkas, Mohammad Atiur Rahman Atique, Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam, MA Hashem and Mohammad Delwar Hossain Khan Dulu attended the meeting presided over by the Chairman of the committee Mosharraf Hossain Mongu.
