Wet start for cricketers

The Bangladesh cricket team returned to training on a wet morning when the players selected in the preliminary camp for the tour of Kenya and Zimbabwe in July-August reported for duty at the Army Stadium in Dhaka yesterday.

The camp is set ahead of a gruelling international one-day season, leading up to the World Cup.

Coach Dav Whatmore and his training staff concentrated on the physical conditioning during the short 45-minute session due to wet conditions.

Sixteen out of the 19 players selected for the camp joined the first day's training.

Missing were Mohammad Ashraful who is playing club cricket in England, rookie all-rounder Sakib Al Hasan who is in Brisbane for a stint at the Commonwealth Bank Academy and Mushfiqur Rahim, who is sitting for the HSC examinations.

Paul Chapman, who is due to replace Stuart Karppinen as the team's trainer, is likely to join the camp in a week's time.

The team would enjoy a day off today before returning to training again tomorrow.

The Tigers are likely to leave for Kenya on July 16 to play three ODIs on July 19, 21 and 23, according to BCB sources.

But it is unconfirmed since the schedule provided by the Kenyan authorities, which states that the matches be played on July 21, 23 and 25.
