A strange selection policy!

As I sat in front of the TV at home, I felt a wave of intense disappointment overtaking me. It didn't leave me for several hours. We lost another ODI meekly to the Mighty Aussies. But it wasn't making me unhappy. The thing that hurt me most was the playing XI for the 3rd match against Australia at Fatullah. I couldn't understand why the selectors axed Javed Omar from the team, he had played a vital innings in the previous match that was also his 50th ODI. Instead of him played Aftab Ahmed who was unfit and Ashraful who was out of form. It's totally unfair to Javed Omar who made 191 runs in 6 matches at an average of 38.20 in 2006, which is simply the best average in 2006 for a Bangladeshi player. It's very harsh that time & again he got axed from the team. He has been dropped 14 times in his ODI career. It's said that he is not suitable for ODI . But in the matches that he played, the average score & the run rate of the Bangladesh team were quite high compared to the matches that he was not included in. His ODI strike rate in 2006 is 61.81, far better than Habibul Bashar & Rajin Saleh. We use different yardsticks for different players. It must be avoided . ***Most of the cricket fans are very much disappointed by the poor performance of Bangladesh cricket team in the last home series against Australia. I think the selection of the national team is not all right. There are many young players on the sidelines who should be included in the team, instead of carrying on with the same players who have failed again and again. Saiful Haque, Dhaka
