Rivals attack BNP leader, 20 injured

At least 20 people including journalists were injured when BNP leader Elthem Kabir and his men came under attack by rivals in the party at Char Sindhur in Polash area in the district on Tuesday. Kabir is a new entrant to the party, sources said. Party sources and witnesses said, a programme in observance of Ziaur Rahman's death anniversary was going on in Sultanpur High School area in the afternoon. Kabir was going to the area to attend the programme. All of a sudden, some party activists from the venue of the death anniversary programme swooped on his and his supporters' vehicles. Soon, a pandemonium broke out and some party men accompanying Kabir were injured and their vehicles badly damaged. Kabir however was not hurt. Besides party activists, the injured included journalists Shahriar Morshed of Rtv, Mobarak Hossain of Channel 1, Bokhtiar Hossain of Channel i, Asadullah Mona of Manobjamin and Akhtaruzzaman of Ittefaq.
