HC issues rule on PSC

A High Court Division bench has issued a rule upon the government to explain why the selection of two candidates, out of 13, for appointment to permanent posts of professors (surgery) in different medical colleges and institutions should not be declared unlawful.

The division bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Mamnoon Rahman passed the order on May 24 following a writ petition filed by Associate Professor Dr Mizanur Rahman of Khulna Medical College and Associate Professor Dr Kali Prosad Sarker of Rajshahi Medical College.

The respondents in the writ are chairman of Public Service Commission (PSC), secretary to the health ministry, secretary to the PSC and controller of examination in the PSC.

In their writ, the petitioners said that although the two candidates are ineligible for promotion, the PSC had selected 13 candidates, including the two, and recommended them for their promotion, according to a press release.

Dr M Zahir and Advocate Mustaque Ahmed Chowdhury appeared for the petitioners.
